Mayor Hartung signs Declaration of Disaster Emergency
On Wednesday, March 25, 2020, the Honorable Mayor Gregg Hartung signed a Declaration of Disaster Emergency. You can read it and his statement to residents here.
In May 2020, Mars Borough Council allowed Mayor Hartung’s original Declaration of Disaster Emergency to expire, siting that the Borough would fall under the Emergency Declaration made by the Governor of Pennsylvania.
Statement regarding Mars Borough Administration:
Due to the coronavirus COVID-19, Mars Borough will be taking measures to keep the community and our employees safe.
We are closing our offices to visitors effective immediately, however employees will be maintaining regular hours to keep Borough operations going.
As of July 2021 the Mars Borough Office of Administration is open to the public. Masks are required if you are unvaccinated. Masks are not required, but are recommended, if you are fully vaccinated.
For Real Estate Tax questions you can contact Mars Borough Tax Collector, Renea Pomeroy, at 724-487-5518.
Statement regarding Mars Borough Police:
Please know that the Mars Police Department is closely monitoring all aspects of the current COVID-19 situation. Going forward, the Mars Police will be first attempting to resolve non-emergency incidents with a phone call. If the incident cannot be resolved over the phone, an officer will then respond directly. Officers will still respond directly to all emergency calls.
Officers will also still respond directly to all emergency medical calls along with EMT’s. Officers will also continue to respond to non-emergency medical calls to ensure the safety of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) but will take measures to limit direct contact with patients during these types of calls.
All patrol and traffic enforcement duties will continue without restriction.
These few updates are meant to prevent Officers from becoming infected and possibly cross-contaminating residents through unnecessary contact. Residents should not hesitate to call police and always call 911 for police response.
As of 2021, the Mars Borough Police Department continues to respond to all emergency and non-emergency calls. The Police Department is open to the public, however it is recommended, as always, that you dial 911 even in non-emergency situations to have an officer dispatched or respond.
Statement regarding Mars Borough Public Works:
Mars Borough Public Works will continue to serve the Mars Borough community. We know many residents often stop to ask Public Works employees questions when they see them working around the Borough, however we are now requesting that you follow social distancing guidelines to help protect our employees as well as the community.
Statement regarding Mars Borough Water:
Mars Borough Water will continue to flow without interruption. Borough employees are following CDC guidelines in all departments, including the water department. According to the DEP, there is no concern that drinking water may be contaminated (https://www.epa.gov/coronavirus/coronavirus-and-drinking-water-and-wastewater#main-content). Mars Borough is proud to have a Class A Operator, the highest license in Pennsylvania, running our water plant. Should there be any developments we will update the community immediately.
Statement regarding Mars Borough Parks:
Effective immediately, all Mars Borough parks are closed.
All Mars Borough Parks are open for regular use during hours posted at each park.
